Cynthia Nixon

Cynthia Nixon is an artist based in State College, PA whose work can be found in many public collections, including the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington, DC and the Museum of Arts & Design, New York. Born in Rochester in 1949, she grew up on the coast of Maine and upstate New York. Her work, a unique hybrid of detailed painting with borders of sewn reflective materials and metal leaf, often explores allegorical themes, while the subjects are personal. She received a B.A. from Dickinson College, M.Ed. from Penn State University School of Visual Arts, and studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of fine Arts, Philadelphia. For over thirty years, her work has been exhibited throughout the United States, including del Mano Gallery, Los Angeles, Noho Gallery, New York, the Delaware Center for Contemporary Arts and internationally in Art in Embassies, U.S. Department of State.
