Rosamond Berg was born in Brewster, New York, grew up in Manhattan, and received a B.F.A. from Cornell University. She spent a post graduate year in Italy and then worked as an art assistant for “Seventeen” magazine. Moving to New Canaan,Connecticut she continued to paint, raise a family, and show as a member of the Silvermine Guild of Artists. She has exhibited at the Allan Stone Gallery in New York City since 1977, at the Thomas Segal Gallery, the Hobe Sound Gallery, and Sound Shore Gallery in. among others. Her work is included in many private and corporate collections. Rosamond’s more comprehensive maritime experience started nineteen years ago when she met her husband. They have sailed the East coast, the Caribbean, the Grenadines, and the Bay of Biscay in a forty-three foot sloop! They spend their summers sailing the East coast while she sketches and collects references for her work from the many harbors and shores they visit. In the years that she has been sailing, Rosamond has observed some of they many nuances, colors, principles, and infinite beauty of waves. In her “close-ups”, she hopes that some of the ideas and feelings will come through the painting to the observer. She is fascinated by the audio-visual rhythms of waves, the surge and splash, and the many many smallwer waves that join to make the fantastic drama of each large wave that breaks on the shore. “The movement of the life spirit through the rhythm of things’, is the statement that embraces for me what art is all about, and what we continue to see when we contemplate this awe-inspiring natural world.
