Roger Winter

Roger Winter was born in Denison, Texas, in 1934. He received a BFA in art from The University of Texas, studying with painters Everett Spruce and Loren Mozely. After obtaining an MFA in painting from The University of Iowa, Winter taught painting and drawing at SMU for 26 years. Since leaving Dallas, he has taught at The University of Pennsylvania, Washington University, Vermont Studio Center, and at New York’s National Academy School. He has had over thirty solo exhibitions and has published five drawing texts. In Texas, his paintings are in the collections of Dallas Museum of Art, El Paso Museum of Art, Houston Museum of Art, Longview Museum of Art, MADI Museum, McNay Museum, and Meadows Museum of Art. In 2007, he received the Texas Artist Legend Award for contributions to contemporary art in the state. Winter lives in New York City and Santa Fe, New Mexico.
