Renee Oubre is from an artistic family. Her father Paul was a studio photographer. He photographed everything from commercial, portrait and wedding. Early on he worked as a photographer in Texas. There he photographed the murals of John Herd, livestock, Mexican funerals, studio photography. He and his wife Jane moved to East Aurora, NY to open their own studio: Oubre Photography. Jane is from East Aurora and her ancestors the Melancon brothers had a carriage trade art shop on Genesee Street in Buffalo. Another maternal ancestor is William George Pratt, a cabinet maker who moved from England to Buffalo, NY. He was commissioned to do woodcarving in a Washington, D.C. cathedral. The artist’s brother Steve is a nationally known furniture maker. His wife Gretchen is a jewelry designer/maker and photographer.
