Marian Schoettle

Marian Schoettle established her professional name “mau” in Philadelphia in 1978. As the designer and maker behind Conceptual Clothing, Schoettle brings limited edition art clothing and accessories to galleries, museums and boutiques. Schoettle uses modern and industrial materials like surplus hardware, surplus paint and Tyvek to create one-of-a-kind pieces.

Mau’s present work is known as post-industrial folk wear. She uses tyvek, which is a light, but very strong and durable, water and wind resistant material used in mailing envelopes, to create accessories for the society on the go. Inventive and raw, Schoettle’s work continues to explore the next frontier in functional, wearable art.
