Margaret Olney-McBride’s (1928-2015) works exude a calm, meditative quality expressed through her fluid, casual brushwork and use of light washes and clear colors. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, and a Master of Fine Arts degree from American University, Washington, D.C. During her career as an artist, she taught at the Corcoran Gallery of Art and the University of Iowa. Olney-McBride has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors—including resident fellowships at the Yaddo Foundation, Saratoga Springs, New York, and The MacDowell Colony, Peterborough, New Hampshire—and won American University’s David Lloyd Kreeger award. Her still lifes and plein air oil paintings have been the subject of many individual shows and group exhibitions throughout the eastern seaboard and are presented in the public collections of institutions such as the Fine Arts Museum, San Francisco, California, and the National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington, D.C.
