Lulseged Retta is among Ethiopia’s most highly respected, comtemporary artists. He was born in Addis Abeba, Ethiopia 1952. Artist Lulseged graduated from the Addis Ababa School of Fine Arts with a diploma in painting. In 1986, he achieved his Master’s Degree in Fine Arts with distinction from the Repine Academy of Arts in Leningrad (St. Petersburg). Through a mosaic interest and a concern for African motif, Artist Lulseged had developed different philosophical approaches to his work.
He has created modern art by studying traditional Ethiopian Art. Artist Lulseged has served as a civil servant at the Ministry of Culture and Information as well as the Ethiopian Tourism Commission. He runs a private studio in Addis Abeba, Ethiopia. Since 1982, Artist Lulseged has participated in many International and National Exhibitions including Ethioipa, Djibouti, Egypt, Kenya, USSR, Czechoslovakia, Switzerland, France, China, Japan, Germany and the United States. Artist Lulseged was the International Award in 1996 Art Works Exhibition in Osaka Japan. He was recognized internationally by the 1996 Yearbook of Who’s Who in Art in the World and in the 1998-99 edition of the 7th International Cairo Biennial Contemporary Art Exhibition Book. He is a fellow of Ethiopian Studies at the Addis Ababa University.
