Kristin Leachman is a contemporary artist living and working in Pasadena, California. Born in Washington, D.C., Leachman spent her early years in rural Virginia. She received her BFA in Painting from the Rhode Island School of Design and her MFA in Production Design from the American Film Institute. Leachman’s work is noted for repositioning abstraction, figuration and scale, painting seamless connections between the subliminal and the sublime. Her current paintings explore patterning and symbolism in the xylem of trees. Leachman’s work is represented in museums and private collections including, among others, The San Diego Museum of Art, the Collection of the National Gallery of Art, and was recently acquired by the U.S. Department of State for exhibition at the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan. An oral history interview with Leachman is included in the Smithsonian Archives of American Art.
