Kate Palmer

Landscape artist, Kate Palmer, currently lives and works in Santa Fe. Formerly a long-time resident of Oklahoma City she moved to New Mexico to be closer to the landscapes there that she loved to paint. Kate received degrees from Oklahoma City University in fine art and English literature. She continued her arts education at the Art Students League in New York, studying there with David Leffel. She has also studied with Michael Lynch and Albert Handell.

Palmer’s landscapes focus mainly on New Mexico scenes and views from travels abroad to Italy. Kate was inspired in her early art career by her architect father so it is no surprise that many of her paintings include architectural elements perfectly placed in their individual landscape settings. The warm browns, terra-cottas and ochres in her palette reproduce the similar colors found in the adobe and stucco buildings found in New Mexico and the Mediterranean. A Kate Palmer landscape or architectural painting invites the viewer in and makes one feel transported to the area she has re-created.

Palmer is a member of Allied Artists of America, the American Artist’s Professional League and Audubon Artists among others. Articles about her work have appeared in Southwest Art and American Artist.
