Born in 1942 in California, Judith Trager has lived in Arizona, Minnesota, Illinois, Maryland, and Connecticut, and for the past twenty-five years, in Colorado where she is a studio artist. She is a graduate of the University of Minnesota, and has done graduate work at Colorado State University. She has made more than three hundred quilts in the past forty years. Her quilts hang in many corporate, public, and private collections including the City of Denver, Children’s National Medical Center, and The Children’s Hospital of Denver. She has exhibited widely, including Quilt National, Crafts National, The Quilted Surface, and The Artist as Quiltmaker, and her work has been featured in many books and magazines.
She received a CO-Visions Recognition Award from the Colorado Council on the Arts for excellence in visual arts in 1995 and has received three major grants from the Boulder (Colorado) Arts Council.
In addition to studio work, Trager teaches design workshops and works as curator of national fiber exhibitions. Her new exhibition, America Celebrates! Quilts of Joy and Remembrance, opens at the Longmont (Colorado) Museum January, 2011 and travels for five years. She has appeared on Simply Quilts and other television programs regarding quiltmaking. She has traveled extensively and has taught in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and the United States.
