I have always tended to create art in series. As I work, one creation inspires the next, and a common theme typically guides the process. In this way, a piece on the easel unleashes the imagination for the next. Furthermore, themes beget themes, and my body of work is found to be an evolving ecosystem of ideas and emotions; a living, growing reflection of my inner self.

A recent inspiration for my work has been the birth and growth of my granddaughter, Sophia Rose. Her birth set in motion a continuing series of works that develop alongside her as she fills the world with joy and inspiration.

Likewise, my developmentally disabled son Jimmy remains an important catalyst for my creativity. His interactions with Sophia, are uniquely reflected in some recent works. I have tried to capture interesting situations through images synthesized within my mind’s eye.

Making art is a way for me to keep balance in my life. It is something I can see, feel, smell, touch, and develop. The process is stimulating, allows me to feel connected on all levels, and provides a sense of fulfillment.

Gerri Moore, a native of Schenectady, New York, received her Master of Fine Arts from the State University of New York at Albany.

She has exhibited in numerous Capital District galleries including Albany Center Galleries, The Dietel Gallery at Emma Willard School and the Schacht Gallery at Russell Sage College, both in Troy, New York. Other exhibits include the Cooperstown Annual Exhibition and the Exhibition of Artists of Central New York at Munson-Williams-Proctor Institute in Utica, New York. Two of her paintings have been selected by the Art in Embassies Program for exhibit at the U.S. Embassy in Minsk, Belarus. She was affiliated with the Phoenix Gallery in New York City from 1995 to 2004.
