Gabriel Macotela is a famous Mexican sculptor, engraver, painter and draftsman, graduated from La Esmeralda. He has made murals such as that found in the Faculty of Medicine of the UNAM, as well as scenographies for plays in the Leon Trotsky Museum. In 1977 he founded Cocina Ediciones and in 1985 the alternative library El Archivero. Since 1976 he has held several solo and group exhibitions both in Mexico and abroad. Throughout his career, he has developed a critical discourse concerning social phenomena, as well as architectural and urban themes.
