Anita Hampton began her painting career as a portrait and still life artist prior to painting landscapes in plein air. Her first award was received from a painting of her grandparents in her early twenties during the Society of Western Artist exhibition in Fresno, California. Shortly after painting and exhibiting her plein air landscapes, she began receiving awards with National Art Organizations, Oil Painters of America, L.A.P.A., and California Art Club including the San Juan Capistrano Mission and Crystal Cove Plein Air Painting Festivals and other competitional exhibitions. She was invited to participate in the Trinchera Ranch Project in the summer of 2006. The work from this project, sponsored by Forbes Corporation and American Artist Magazine, was exhibited at the Forbes Museum in New York. Her paintings have been displayed at the California State Capital and the American Embassy in Madrid, Spain.
Hampton paints and instructs all subjects. She has a rich teaching experience, painting philosophy, and a high standard of professionalism. Hampton is a signature member of the California Art Club and past signature member of the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association and Oil Painters of America. Her work is included in many major collections and publications, some of which include the Irvine Collection and Museum, Guy Rose Collection, Forbes Corporation and private collection and Hyatt Regency, Inc. and has been listed in Who’s Who in America.
Hampton has shared her painting experiences and knowledge of art by teaching landscape, still life and portrait painting workshops in the United States and abroad. Some of her teachings and written lessons are included in Oil Painting Step by Step, 2002 , The Art of Oil Painting 2003 , and , How to Draw and Paint Landscapes, 2011, published by Walter Foster Publications showing painted subjects in landscapes, still life and portraiture. Her paintings are included in many publications, some of which include Joan Irvine Fine Art, Inc. publication: A California Woman’s Story on the life of Joan Irvine Smith and Crystal Cove Cottages: Islands in Time on the California Coast and the new California Light: A Century of Landscapes, available April 12, 2011; a 264 page book published by Rizzoli International, one of the leading publishers of art books reflecting artists work over the past one hundred years.
Hampton prefers to work from life with little to no photographic tools. As such, she must work quickly and accurately. With this mastery of paint coupled with her unfailing eye for natural composition she is able to produce work of exquisite quality.
