Anthony Watkins was born near Richmond, Virginia and grew up on his grandfather’s farm near Fredericksburg. He worked for a short time in military aircraft design before changing his focus to fine art. He studied painting with Lawrence Gluck, founder of Mission: Renaissance Art Schools in Los Angeles, CA, and with Yves Brayer at the Academie de la Grande Chaumiere and at the Ecole des Beaux-Art in Paris, France.
Watkins specializes in paintings of people and places seen under striking conditions of light and color. He has painted on location nationwide and has made painting trips to many countries, including Great Britain, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain. Anthony Watkins is represented by Berkley Gallery in Warrenton, VA; Robert Wilson Galleries in Nantucket, MA and Sarasota, FL; and Walsingham Gallery in Newburyport, MA.
