Alex Stisser was born and raised on a family farm in central Illinois. There he developed an appreciation for making objects and working with his hands. An interest in ceramics and printmaking lured Alex into art school where he soon discovered glassblowing. Alex went on to earn his BFA in glass at Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois. After graduating, he worked for a number of glass artists’ studios throughout New England and eventually moved to the Pacific Northwest. At Benjamin Moore Incorporated in Seattle, Alex was fortunate enough to work along side many skilled artists such as Benjamin Moore, Dante Marioni and Dan Dailey. Alex has spent several summers taking workshops at Pilchuck Glass School and Haystack Mountain School of Crafts. Currently, Alex is a lead glassblower and designer at the Museum of Glass International Center for Contemporary Art in Tacoma, Washington. The museum’s artists’ residency programs have given Alex an excellent opportunity to work with distinguished artists from all over the world.
