Marcy Hermansader is a collage artist who mixes photographs and found materials with drawings and painted paper. The textures and patterns she achieves are remarkable, while the subject matter she addresses ranges from the personal and sentimental to the internationally political. In a series of recent work, Hermansader applies dense layers of small paper strips to create compositions of intricate subtlety. She has shown at the Fleisher/Ollman Gallery in Philadelphia, the Portland Museum of Art, Maine, and the Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art in Ridgefield, Connecticut, among other venues. In 2002, her work traveled to Montevideo, Uruguay, with the Art in Embassies Program. Public collections of her work include the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the DeCordova Museum.
