Susan Henningsen received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art Education from Arizona State University. She teaches art in elementary school in Phoenix, Arizona. Her education in sculpture became more focused as she continued her art education at the Scottsdale Artists’ School, located in Scottsdale, Arizona, where she also teaches sculpture.
Henningsen’s most recent commission is to produce a monumental sculpture of United States Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, which will be installed in the new Sandra Day O’Connor United States Court House in Phoenix, Arizona. It will be installed in 2002.
The artist creates sculptures in clay and bronze, with portraits and figurative sculpture being her main subjects. Henningsen finds that sculpture nourishes her spirit and she creates sculpture that speaks to those emotions that nourish and enrich the lives of the viewers.
