“Through loose and gestural brushstroke, and layering
of color, the painting process is suggestive of motion.
Oil paint allows for a ‘seeing’ to occur for the artist
as the image is emerging because of its flexibility and
slow drying time. As a kinesthetic person, I am attuned
to the body’s movement and position in space.
I use the gestural figure as a metaphor for movement
through water, which is fluid and constantly moving.
I have been a swimmer since childhood, and realize
my inner awareness is heightened as I move through
water. The images that result straddle both the real
and the abstract: a direct correlation to the duality
in life.”
Andrea Geller was born in New York City. She received
her Master of Fine Arts degree from William Patterson
University, Wayne, New Jersey, and her Bachelor
of Fine Arts degree from Parsons School of Design,
New York City, after studying at Cornell University,
Ithaca, New York. She has taught studio art courses
at Bergen Community College, Paramus, New Jersey;
William Patterson College, Wayne, New Jersey; and
SUNY, Rockland, New York. Geller has been an exhibiting
artist for more than twenty years, showing in
New York, New Jersey, and Texas, and her work can
be found in numerous private and corporate collections,
including Johnson and Johnson, Inc.
